More heritage, more culture and more Estepona

The Municipal Archaeological Museum completes its comprehensive refurbishment with a major transformation: the Town Council is doubling the exhibition space so that many of the archaeological pieces that had been kept in storage can, at last, be enjoyed by everyone.

A project with an investment of €97,999 (VAT included) that gives fresh momentum to the conservation and showcasing of our heritage.

The refurbishment has made it possible to:

  • Create a new large room on the upper floor.
  • Recover an old 18th-century beamed ceiling, characteristic of local architecture.
  • Install a lift and improve the toilets, advancing accessibility.
  • Incorporate an artistic stained-glass roof over the central courtyard.
  • Renew the lighting and improve the exhibition rooms and display cases.
  • Restore the columns on both floors, recovering as far as possible their original appearance.
  • Renew the balustrade and the steps of the staircase.
  • Showcase the Moorish-era cistern, integrated into the new museum space.
  • Improve the safety of the upper gallery while maintaining its spaciousness and visibility.

And most importantly: this expansion will make room for dozens of pieces that help us understand the origins of Estepona, from Prehistory to the Roman and Islamic periods.

The aim is clear: to preserve our past, make it accessible to everyone and keep making Estepona a town proud of its history and heritage.

At the Partido Popular de Estepona we continue working so that our culture, our history and our heritage have the place they deserve.
