García Urbano calls on the central Government to authorise coastal defence works and new accesses to the A7 motorway
The Popular Party leader reiterates that both issues are priorities and necessary for the town and has lamented that, despite the repeated proposals made by the Town Council over these years, the Executive of Pedro Sánchez has systematically turned its back on the people of Estepona and has neither planning nor will to resolve these problems.
The mayor of Estepona and candidate for re-election for the PP, José María García Urbano, has reiterated his commitment to achieving two priority and necessary issues for the town that are the responsibility of the central Government: coastal defence works and the accesses to the A7 motorway.
On the first of the issues, he explained that “this issue is a priority for the PP municipal government” and lamented that there is no urgent planning by the central Government to resolve this problem on the coast. Thus, he recalled that he has spent a year calling on the Executive of Pedro Sánchez to take the necessary steps to agree that Estepona Town Council be allowed to carry out the projects and the execution of the works necessary for coastal defence. In this regard, he stressed that the PP municipal government has the will and has the means to carry out the works that would stabilise the beaches.
In this regard, he argues that the continual storms that batter the coast have become a periodic threat to the coastal strip, causing numerous problems and serious damage to public and private infrastructure and facilities; as well as a decline in the competitiveness of the municipality as a tourist destination, with the negative impact this causes for this sector of activity, strategic for the economy of Estepona and of the country.
On the other hand, he referred to the need for the central Government to create new accesses to the town from the A7 motorway, in the La Lobilla area, to relieve congestion on entering and leaving the town. The mayor recalled that the growth the town has had makes it urgent to take this decision, which depends exclusively on the central Government. “This new access is very necessary and I note that in other parts of Spain these actions have been carried out in situations similar to that of Estepona”, he added.
