The High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) has ordered the VOX municipal spokesperson in… to pay costs

The High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) has ordered the VOX municipal spokesperson to pay costs in a legal action against the Town Council.

The TSJA has ruled in favour of the municipal government team and has dismissed the administrative appeal lodged by the VOX group’s municipal spokesperson, Manuel Aguilar, against the decision that the full council meeting of Estepona Town Council had to approve in order to introduce the rubbish charge imposed by the central Government. It also orders the VOX councillor to pay the court costs.

This court ruling dismantles the strategy of confrontation maintained by the VOX municipal group over a measure that the Town Council was obliged to apply under national legislation, and confirms that the Town Council acted in accordance with the law.

The PP municipal government team has been maintaining that this "tasazo" (hefty charge) was not a political decision of the Town Council, but an imposition arising from regulations approved by the central Executive.

In contrast, it is worth remembering that Estepona Town Council has approved a set of tax cuts to help families. Specifically, a 3% reduction on the bill for those who pay by direct debit and pay within the voluntary period. In addition, another 3% reduction for those who recycle at the recycling point at least three times a year. Likewise, the Town Council also allocates €150,000 a year to subsidise this rubbish charge for residents in vulnerable situations, the long-term unemployed or pensioners.
