García Urbano commits to bringing the inherited debt of 300 million euros to zero and making a major tax cut
The mayor and PP candidate has said that every day of these 12 years in government 60,000 euros have been devoted to paying that inherited debt, in total, more than 250 million euros have been paid. Thus, he asked himself “how many more things could have been done with that money in the town and how many things will be able to be done when we put an end to the burden of left-wing governments”.
The mayor of Estepona and candidate for re-election for the PP, José María García Urbano, has highlighted the great economic and administrative effort made to turn around the situation in which Estepona Town Council found itself in 2011 and to generate resources to carry out the great transformation the town has undergone, without raising taxes on citizens.
In this regard, he referred to the work that has made it possible to reduce the debt left by left-wing governments in 2011, which amounted to 304 million euros, and which currently stands at 49 million euros. Thus, he has committed to achieving the goal of reaching ‘zero debt’ in the next term, maintaining the “transparent, efficient, credible and compliant” economic management of these years. At the same time, he announced that once this aim is achieved “a major tax cut” will be carried out.
“Every day of these 12 years in government 60,000 euros have been devoted to paying that inherited debt, more than 250 million euros. How many more things could have been done with that money in the town and how many things will be able to be done when we put an end to the burden of left-wing governments?”, he asked himself.
García Urbano said that “we have developed serious, rigorous economic management that is compliant towards companies and citizens”. In this regard, he pointed to other economic milestones, such as ensuring that all the economic indicators of Estepona Town Council are in positive territory and that the local body is no longer an administration under intervention by the central Government. In addition, the average supplier payment period has been brought down to 9 days, compared with the 1,492 days that the PSOE government took to pay.
Alongside this, almost 200 million euros have been invested in improving, equipping and modernising the town, placing Estepona among the public administrations that invest the most per inhabitant.
