We close a year marked by the repayment of the inherited debt and the historic tax cut

Today we held the last full council meeting of 2025, with which we close an important year in which we achieved the “historic milestone” of paying off the entire 300 million of debt that the current governing team inherited in 2011 from previous governments. Reaching this ‘zero debt’ has made it possible to carry out “the biggest tax cut in the city’s history”, which has materialised in this year’s Property Tax (IBI) bill and will do so again in 2026.

This year other important steps have been taken for the city, such as the expansion of spaces in the low-cost car park network, with the addition of the La Viña car park; the launch of the ‘Neighbourhood Brigade’, with the aim of improving and strengthening the maintenance of these residential and commercial areas of the city; or the first procedures to provide the city with social housing (VPO) both in Camino de Cortes and in the Arroyo Vaquero area.

The 2026 budget will be the first in which no sums have to be allocated to debt, resources that will now go towards strengthening services for citizens.
